October 2004 - Andrew S. Pullin's book Conservation biology is published by PWN (a leading Polish scientific publishing house). We participated in its translation into Polish.

May - November 2004 - Aleksandra Pępkowska and Joanna Kudłek during a scholarship visit to the University of Sheffield (UK), participated in a research project led by Professor Kevina Gaston concerning the studies of biological diversity in towns (more information here).

9-15 May 2004 - The Festival of Science; Kraków, Poland .
It has already become a tradition in Krakow that the Festival of Science is organized there each year. During the Festival, Krakow-based higher education establishments present their achievements to the general public. Our Institute has been a participant in the Festival since its inception. On 14 and 15 May 2004, our Department presented an exhibition entitled 'Life in a clod of soil' and a poster 'Nature refuges in Krakow'. The Department of Hydrobiology and the Department of Population Biology of the Institute of Environmental Sciences presented their separate exhibitions

23-25 April 2004 - Conference: Biodiversity in Poland and Polish studies thereon; Białowieża, Poland.
The conference was organized by the Mammal Research Institute, Polish Academy of Sciences in Białowieża. It was attended by scientists, NGO representatives and other concerned professionals from all over Poland. In line with the conference's theme, even the range of topics presented in sessions displayed great diversity. The conference plenary sessions kicked off with the invited lecture by Professor January Weiner: Biodiversity research: passion, fashion, compulsion, or simply a case of hunger for much needed success?. Apart from the lecture we presented a poster on the biodiversity in Krakow city.

15 May 2003 - Symposium: Nature of Kraków and its protection; Kraków, Poland.
Conference hall of Academy of Sciences and Letters The Institute of Environmental Sciences, Jagiellonian University, organized this symposium under the auspices of the European Union Centre of Excellence, devoting the proceeding to various aspects of the nature in Krakow area and the need to study and protect it. The Honorary Patronage over the Symposium was assumed by Professor dr hab. Jacek Majchrowski, Mayor of Krakow.
