It is the single largest patch of carr vegetation within the limits of the city. The dominant tree species include: black poplar, white willow, and crack willow (the trees there can be 50-year or older). In the undergrowth there are: willow shrubs, European elder, and common spindle-tree; the herbaceous layer is composed chiefly of nettle, European dewberry, giant fescue, and water chickweed. Adding to the rich range of habitats are also many water-filled pits.

In 1997, some 700 old trees growing directly on the Vistula river bank were cut down (the decision to cut them was issued by the Department of Environmental Protection of the City Office, quoting flood protection-related reasons for its decision); cutting more trees has only been prevented by the intervention of Kraków-based nature-conservation NGOs and other community groups.
