A body of water, which has appeared at a former clay extraction pit. This body of water undergoes natural succession processes. Its edges are overgrown by reed and reedmace fens. The fens provide suitable nesting habitats for water birds. The water table is not overgrown by vegetation. The pond is stocked with a number of fish species, namely:German carp, (common) carp, pike, perch, roach, bream, and grass carp (white amur). The major threats: noise and refuse dumping.
Płaszowski pond is situated in one of the most valuable areas of the cityin terms of landscape and nature. Close to the pond are: Krakus mound, the Liban quarry, a complex of ponds near Krakow-Bonarka railway station, Wzgórze Lasoty (hill) and Bonarka nature reserve. The whole area has been proposed by the Foundation for the Support of Ecological Initiatives for designation as a protected landscape-nature complex.
